We have been inundated with responses to our free training in 12 hour Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding Children & Childminders.
First Aid courses are now full in the following areas:
East Belfast; Lisburn; Craigavon; Newtownards; Newtownabbey; Armagh; Newry; Cookstown; Ballymena and Londonderry.
Safeguarding Children & Childminders training is now full in the following areas:
Lisburn; Portadown; Armagh & Antrim
If you applied and have not received a letter confirming a place on your chosen course unfortunately you have not been successful. We will keep your name on a reserve list and in the event that further funding becomes available, we will contact you. Please keep an eye on the NICMA website for details.
CHILDMINDING AND DAYCARE FOR CHILDREN UNDER AGE 12
The ‘Minimum Standards’ were launched in July 12 as a means of providing a consistent level of quality for all childminding and daycare services and to ensure a consistent regional approach to registration and inspection.
There are 2 documents relating to Minimum Standards:

HMRC is offering free online seminars (webinars) in August for people who are either thinking of becoming a childminder or who are already childminding.
The webinar is a basic guide to key tax and National Insurance issues affecting self-employed childminders. It explains how to register with HMRC, what expenses are allowable and how to keep records.
In addition you will be able to get answers to your own questions.
The webinar lasts for about an hour and as long as you have internet access you can take part from wherever suits you. You can use a laptop, iPad, iPhone or Android phone/tablet. Use the links below to register:

New Research Launched
Childminding in Northern Ireland: an exploration of practice, quality and the impact of vertical placements on children.
This exciting study is as a result of the first time any research has been carried out on childminding in Northern Ireland.
Addressing the quality of care, the benefits and difficulties of vertical grouping (i.e children of different ages being cared for together).
The study also provides a profile of childminders in terms of age, gender, qualifications held and access to training and support.
It's two overall aims are :
- To ascertain the impacts on children of vertical grouping.
- To explore issues of practice and quality within childminding in Northern Ireland.

NICMA & the Trust Early Years teams are currently delivering training sessions as above. You will receive a letter inviting you
to attend according to your inspection date.
