Title: ‘CHILDMINDING TOUCHES LIVES...’
Date: 17th June 2009
News Details: ‘CHILDMINDING TOUCHES LIVES...’ NICMA’s Special Edition publication which celebrates 25 years of Childminding in Northern Ireland.
‘Childminding touches lives’ recognises not only the work of the organisation, but probably more importantly, the impact that Childminding has had on the lives of children & families over the years; children, whose lives have been so richly enhanced by being cared for and loved by a childminder and their extended family; and families, who without the benefit of a reliable childminder certainly would not have been able to manage their work and family responsibilities.
NICMA has come a long way since 1984 when the Association was formed by a small group of childminders who recognised the need for support and professional development. 25 years on we feel very proud that we now have a thriving professional organisation which represents childminding in Northern Ireland. Our work is multi faceted - we work in local communities to promote childminding as a career and to attract interest in the profession; we have a whole range of training & quality initiatives for prospective childminders or for those already practising who want to enhance their skills and knowledge. We work with 11 of the SureStart programmes to develop Childminding Networks, which is a means of providing a level of home based daycare for SureStart families. We work to support our 2,500 childminding members , both as individuals and through 23 support groups, to help them run their own small self-employed businesses as well as enhancing the quality of the service they offer to families. We also provide a full Childminding Advice & Vacancy service – to help parents who need to find a childminder, as well as helping the childminders themselves run a professional business.
