Title: High/Scope Training Awards Ceremony
Date: 22nd November 2004
News Details: NICMA have recently completed the first High/Scope Childminder training programme in Northern Ireland and presented awards to over 60 childminders and High/Scope tutors to reward their learning and development.
High/Scope is a quality approach to children’s learning that is widely used in the UK by childcarers to enhance children’s development.
Guests at the Awards Ceremony included representatives of High/Scope Ireland, Childcare Partnerships and Health Boards and Trusts. The awards were presented by Tony Rodgers, Assistant Director, SHSSB.
Sylvia Moore from Lisburn, one of the Childminders receiving an award, was delighted to be given the opportunity to access a place on a High/Scope course. Sylvia is married with 3 children of her own and has been committed to developing her own childminding service through a range of training and development. She says:
“I was first introduced to High/Scope approximately 13 years ago when looking for a Pre-School placement for my oldest son. At that stage, a local playgroup had just begun using this teaching method and all my 3 children began their education in this way. Attending the training meant that I could learn how to implement High/Scope into my childminding setting. The most important change for me has been the role of the adult in the children’s day-to-day learning.
My High/Scope training has changed my whole approach to educating children both as a parent and a childcare provider. As most of our minded children spend a large part of their day with us we have a huge responsibility as “What we are, our children will become.”
