Title: NICMA - Encourages Women into Childcare Careers
Date: 27th February 2007
News Details: NICMA is committed to developing training opportunities as an agency and strives to make available innovative initiatives for training delivery, considering the unique difficulties of women accessing training i.e. financial restrictions, isolated settings and the necessity for evening training sessions.
Working in partnership with Childminding Ireland, NICMA’s Cross Border Childcare Training and Development Project addresses these issues and is designed for women interested in childcare as a career.
The aim of the project is to provide education, training and support for women in targeted areas in order to improve their skills and employability as well as advise and inform them of childcare career opportunities, both home based and facility based. The beneficiaries of the project will be recruited from all sections of the community, have the opportunity to travel across the border and share experiences with other women/cultures.
The area that will be targeted will include Strabane, Castlederg, Londonderry and surrounding areas (NI) and Lifford, Castlefin, Newtowncunningham and surrounding areas (ROI).
The project offers a variety of FREE training courses that will increase the knowledge and personal skills of participants, building confidence and assist them to restart or re-direct their careers.
• Introduction to Home Based Childcare
• Awareness of Cultural Diversity/Working with Families from Different Cultures
• Breaking Down the Barriers – Challenging Sectarianism in Early Years
• Quality Awareness Programme (Childminders in ROI only) – delivered by Childminding Ireland
• Quality First – a quality assurance scheme for childminders (NI only)
• NVQ Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development (3 Units)
Through the project, we aim to build capacity within the Cross Border regions by increasing the number of self employed, trained childminders with a subsequent increase in overall childcare provision. This, in turn, will enable other women to return to employment and training.
