Are you Childminding without Insurance protection?
Why do I need Insurance?
Public liability insurance cover is a vital requirement of running any self employed business, especially in view of the isolation of the job and therefore the potential vulnerability of the Childminder. Although the Children [NI] Order does not require insurance as mandatory, it is suggested under Regulations and Guidance, that it would be good practice for Childminders to take out public liability insurance. Last year, a registered Childminder in Northern Ireland was ordered to pay £60,000 damages to a child, who as a toddler, was bitten in the face by her dog. This case further highlights the absolute need for a Childminder to protect their business and their livelihood. If this childminder had not been insured, she could have lost her home. Don’t put yourself at risk.
